Understanding Your Tires Tread

Understanding your tires treads and how they are measured can be confusing and frustrating, but still important. when you drive on bald tires you put your safety and the safety of your passengers at risk. Plus, you can get a nasty ticket.

Tires are measured at 32nds of an inch, with new tires being measured at 10/32nds of an inch (about 1/3 of an inch). Your tires are bald at 2/32nds of an inch. An easy trick to find out if your treads are at 2/32nds or not is the penny trick. You place a penny in the tread with Lincoln's head facing downward. If you can see the top of Lincoln's head your tires are bald and need replaced.

If you are still insure or uncomfortable with your vehicle's tires than it is always a good idea to bring your vehicle in to our Lynchburg, VA service center for help.
